The 4th District is majority-Hispanic and spans Chicago's Southwest Side neighborhoods and several near-west suburbs. Rep. Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, in Congress since 2019, withdrew from the race on the candidate-filing deadline and endorsed his chief of staff, Patty Garcia, leaving her as the only Democrat on the March primary ballot — a decision that drew criticism from Democrats who said it denied voters a competitive primary.
